Nattokinase is an enzyme derived from "natto", a traditional fermented soy food popular in Japan. Best Nattokinase contains pure nattokinase enzyme with all Vitamin K removed.

Q. What is Nattokinase ?
A. Nattokinase is an enzyme (a protein that speeds up biochemical reactions) that is extracted from a popular Japanese food     called natto. Natto is boiled soybeans that have been fermented with a bacterium called Bacillus natto.

Q. What are the benefits of Nattokinase ?
A. The benefits are as follows:
Nutrients: Natto is a low-cholesterol food that supplies a good amount of protein, vitamin K and the minerals magnesium, copper, iron and manganese. Its vitamin K content is particularly high and helps with bone-building by promoting the use of calcium. Japanese folk medicine uses natto as a cardiovascular remedy and to help with fatigue.
Blood Thining: Nattokinase is thought to function in a similar fashion to the blood-thinning agent coumadin. If you've had a vascular injury or are prone to high fibrinogen levels or formation of arterial plaque, which contains fibrin, you may benefit from nattokinase's protein-digesting effects. The enzyme reduces arterial thickening and may help heal blood vessels. Also, consider taking nattokinase to prevent blood clots from forming in your legs during long airline flights, when extended periods of sitting and air pressure changes can cause blood to pool in your legs
Clotting: A study published in the 2010 issue of the journal "Acta Haematologica" found that nattokinase decreased blood-clot formation in laboratory animals. Researchers note that this study was the first to demonstrate the effectiveness of nattokinase in live animals, as opposed to previous research, which evaluated nattokinase's effects on tissue cultures.

Q. How does Nattokinase work ?
A. Nattokinase decreases the ability of blood to clot. This "thins the blood" and might protect against conditions caused by blood clots such as stroke, heart attack, and others.

Q. What are the Nutritional value of Natto ?
A. Basic Nutritional value: A 100 g serving of natto provides about 212 calories, 11 g fat, 2 g saturated fat, 18 g protein, 14 g carbohydrates, 5 g sugars or 1.25 tsp., 5 g dietary fiber, 0 mg cholesterol and 0 mg sodium. The macronutrient breakdown for natto is approximately 45 percent calories from fat, 34 percent calories from protein and 25 percent calories from carbohydrates.

Omega-3 Fats and Protein: Natto is a good food source of omega-3 fatty acids, a type of polyunsaturated fatty acid. A 100 g serving provides 734 mg. According to an article published in "Cardiovascular Psychiatry and Neurology" in September 2009, omega-3 fatty acids show promise in preventing and treating cardiovascular diseases and depression due to their cardioprotective, anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective effects.

Vitamins: Natto is rich in the B-vitamins thiamin and riboflavin and vitamins C and K. Thiamin is important for a proper nervous system function and, along with riboflavin, helps convert food into energy. Riboflavin is also necessary for hormone production and proper function of brain chemicals, or neurotransmitters, such as serotonin. Vitamin C supports a healthy immune system and supports thyroid function, and vitamin K is essential for normal blood clotting and plays a role in bone formation

Major minerals: Major minerals are needed by our bodies in quantities greater than 100 mg daily. Natto is an excellent food source of phosphorus, calcium, potassium and magnesium.

Trace minerals: Trace minerals are needed by the human body in quantities less than 100 mg daily. Natto is rich in manganese, iron, copper and zinc.

Q. What is the History and Origin of Nattokinase ?
A. Nattokinase is 100% Japanese in origin and it is still widely eaten as a common breakfast food in Japan called natto. Natto is made by boiling soybeans and making it ferment by adding healthy bacteria. Nattokinase is produced during the fermentation process and natto is made. This traditional Japanese food is similar to cheese in consistency and smell.
